NEXT WAVE SYSTEMS, Objectives and Growth
Revenue – NWS’s primary existing and targeted customer base comprises three major areas: the Department of Defense (DoD) and Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane); the Department of Energy (DoE); and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Customers – To meet our revenue goals requires a strong repeat customer base as well as an expansion of customers within each of the three major customer target areas. A strong commitment to customer service, providing valued products on time, and effectively communicating with customers are key elements to meeting these objectives.
Development – To remain viable NWS must keep pace with tomorrow’s ever-changing technology and the application of this technology to meet our customers’ needs. NWS will pursue R&D projects that expand our core capabilities while allowing us to branch into related new technologies. Our goal is to submit proposals for at least four major R&D tasks and obtain at least one each year.
Personnel – During our first year in operation we built a core team of five senior engineers/scientists/managers to execute small projects and lead larger ones. This initial round of hires was made up of senior personnel with the experience and expertise to make NWS a dynamic, highly capable company, and who possessed the contacts and reputation to attract customers and funds immediately. These five leaders have since been augmented by an additional 10 full-time and 2 part-time engineers, technicians and administrative personnel to execute the increasing workload. Additional hiring will be accomplished as workload continues to grow.
Economic Development – NWS is committed to economic development and creating more high paying high-tech jobs throughout Indiana. Indiana is sometimes referred to as the "Brain Drain" because many universities provide technical degrees, but these graduates leave the state for better oppurtunities. NWS would like to change this trend. The Crown Point office located in northwest Indiana provides proximity to a number of great universities and access to personnel with the highly technical talents that are coveted by NWS’s customers. The HUBZone areas in the Southeast provide personnel with the strong Hoosier work ethic and many of the skills necessary for low rate production, fielding, and maintaining of systems, while promoting economic development in the area and providing for continued HUBZone small business evaluation preferences in the award of Government contracts. The Bloomington office is located in the Indiana University Small Business Development Center. The location provides great opportunity to partner with Indiana University and Ivy Tech.
