NEXT WAVE SYSTEMS CREATES CAC-ENABLED WEB SERVER
BLOOMINGTON – A CAC-Authenticated source code repository is now up and running in the Distributed Operations Branch (Code JSXL). Next Wave Systems, LLC recently completed the project.
After researching several options, the Branch chose Subversion as their source code repository. They plan to use the system to track revisions and changes to code used in the Marine Corp Mortar Fire Control System (MCMFCS). This enables the development team to simultaneously and collaboratively work on software without concern for overwriting or losing code. However, data security required CAC authentication for a web service that runs constantly and that meets the DoD security requirements for remote access. The project required customization of the web server components and selection of compatible front-end portals and utilities for accessing the repository.
Next Wave's lead engineer on the project, Lucas Johnson, explained "it allows our clients with smart card access requirements to have secure, encrypted access to their Subversion source code repositories with a very intuitive TRAC interface. Issue tracking, configuration management and versioning come together in one seamless and secure system."
"We chose Next Wave because none of us had the background in Linux here in our branch," said Logan Kittinger, software engineering lead for the MCMFCS. "They came highly recommended."
Next Wave specializes in security and expeditionary warfare-related systems. Its primary clients are in the US Departments of Defense and Energy. Next Wave is headquartered in Pekin, Ind., and has offices in Bloomington, Merrillville and West Lafayette. It was recently named one of 50 “Indiana Companies to Watch.”
" It's running perfect," said Kittinger. "We've implemented it on one project and so far, the guys that are using it have had no gripes about it. They see a world of difference between this and the previous system we were using."
